9 x 12" Mixed Media on Japanese Rice Paper.

Each of the works on this website began as a print that I produced between 1969-71, using hand-set wood and metal type in combination with lino-, zinc-, and woodcuts.  Each monoprint was unique, and produced by hand on a Vandercook proof-press.  Click here to see the original announcement for my San Francisco University of California “Monotypograph” show in 1970.

Today these prints are the basis for new works as I paint over them in ink, acrylic, pencil, and marking pen.  By recycling these older works I am able to incorporate the complex fabrics of my past with my current perspective on the world.

Click on the thumbnails below to see detailed examples of how the original prints form the structure underneath these new works.
